Every Time a Bell Rings

I am exhausted! I finally submitted my last assignments for the semester. WooHoo! I don't know if they are good or bad but it doesn't matter right now because they are DONE! I will worry about my grade later. Now it is time to relax and do fun stuff. The first order of business is to watch a movie on television.

Ok, because my brain is mush right now, I am missing my filter. I am about to admit something that may shock some of you. Many of you know me as a rather mouthy little woman with shrew-like tendencies, a sharpened tongue, and a wicked sense of humor. Ah, but that is only part of me. There is another side that is actually, dare I say it, down right soft. Wimpy, even. And that warm fuzzy pink side is in her glory because one of her favorite movies is on right now. So I am saying it loud and proud...I love "It's a Wonderful Life!"

Whatever to you out there who are laughing at me. I don't care that it is ridiculously old fashioned. I don't care it only has stereotypical roles for women. I don't even care that it seems the only Black person in town is the maid. It is a classic, it is Frank Capra, and I LOVE IT! My heart breaks when little George gets smacked upside the head for trying to help Mr. Gower. I grin a big old cheesy grin when George sees Mary at the graduation dance like he's seeing her for the first time. I get goosebumps when they stand painfully close on the phone and he passionately tells her he never wants to get married, right before kissing her. I want to cry when George is so disappointed by his "small" life that he wants to die even though he means so much to so many people. I even like weird little Zuzu and those freaking petals. And even though it is a drag that George didn't get to run off and be an adventurer like his brother and his friends, the truth is not all of us get to have the millions of dollars or the mansions or the trips all over the world or even fantastic film roles. We have to pick what is important to us in the end, regardless of how smart or talented we are.

So there, now you know. I am a big old softy. I don't care who knows. Mock me if you must, I can take it. Because we all know that when the movie is over, I'll be my sassy self again.

I love comments so let's hear it:  What is your favorite holiday movie? Doesn't matter which holiday...Christmas, Hanukkah, Samhain, Arbor Day, whatever!
