Two versus Three??
Ok, I'm going to need you to be calm. You might need to take a seat too.
Yesterday, I get a call from our wonderful agency contact, Alisa. I assumed she was calling in response to my email that I finally got my employment verification letter. (Who knew it was such I secret I worked there?) No, she had a question for me. We had stated over and over to anyone listening that we were looking to adopt two children under the age of two. Well, she wanted to know if we would consider adopting a child that was three. Turns out that there are two non-sibling children available for adoption and she wanted to gauge our interest. Two boys - a three year old and a twenty day old.
I told you to stay calm! Seriously, I must state this is NOT the official referral, so no pictures or medical info. Anything could happen at this point. If another family that is a strong fit becomes "paper ready" before we do, then obviously that would be the boys' forever family. That being said, that pesky employment letter was the last piece of paper we had to get from someone else. So we were SUPER motivated and gathered the rest of our home study paperwork this very evening.
What does this all mean? It means that we are almost "paper ready" for a referral. It means that there is a chance that the children we heard about might very well be OUR children and that we are ever closer to knowing them. It means that I might find out very soon that I will be living in a house full of testosterone and trucks as the mother of two boys.
Since we weren't sure about the difference between a two year old and a three year old, we called an expert...My mom (nurse, mother, and grandmother) She said "Three is a little more mellow two...They will still test boundaries, but they've become better at it. " She said kids have a few more words under their belt by three "if they live past two due to the fact that their parent's want to wring their necks at two or they accidentally pulled the Christmas tree down on themselves." Did I mention my mom has a very dark sense of humor? She said we'd probably appreciate having some years between the kids so we can catch our breath, if only for a minute.
So we wrote Alisa back and told her we are definitely open to a three year old. And tomorrow we deliver a whole bunch of paper to our agency. Looks like things are about to get VERY exciting! Now I need someone to tell ME to be calm!
