Exercise Your Rights!

'Scuse me while I step up on my soap box.

Today I voted. That's right, I took advantage of early voting. I usually wait till election day but I figured if I got it done early, then there would be no reason of not making it out, like too long of lines, or crying babies, or not finding a sitter. Now, I am not an activist nor a politician. I am not affiliated with any political party. I am not a lobbyist or leader of a major organization. I am an American citizen. And I honestly feel that title comes with responsibility. I have the privilege of being born in this day and age, and I am forever indebted to the people before me that fought hard for me to be able to speak my mind and vote. As a Black woman, I am well aware that if I was born in an earlier time, I would be denied that right.

Speaking up is a human right, in my opinion. We are soulful beings full of thoughts, passions, and emotions. We have the ability to communicate and give voice to our desires, dreams, and ideas. We can't always get what we want and I am definitely not advocating anarchy. I just think people need ways to express what they want. And in this country we have that opportunity.

So, I am asking you...no, I am ordering you...if you are eligible to vote, then get registered and vote! Seriously, it is pretty hypocritical for one to complain about things if one is given a voice and decides not to speak up. The future belongs to the people that show up. Do whatever you need to do to make sure you cast your vote. Make a plan to get to the polls and vote.

K, someone else can take the soap box. I'm good for now.
